    Program Opportunities

     

    At Pittsburgh Public Schools, there are more than 120 approved organizations that provide Out-of-School Time learning. While schools may be closed, many of these providers are working to share virtual learning opportunities with students and families. Whether you are looking for activities you can do from home or a chance to join a video session, there are plenty of activities for you to choose from below.

  • The Office of Out-of-School Time (OST) currently partners with more than 100 community-based non-profits and youth serving organizations, many of which are offering afterschool programming for the 2020-2021 school year both virtually and in-person. The table below allows you to view OST provider's program information for fall 2020, and whether the program is virtual or not.

    Program Name: Amachi Pittsburgh Ambassador's Program 

    Amachi Ambassadors is a youth organizing program that empowers children of promise to raise awareness and education about the impact of parental incarceration on children, families, and communities.     Bloomfield-Garfield Corporation

    Program Name: College and Career Readiness Program

    The College and Career Readiness Program supports youth in 11th and 12th grade in their pursuit of staying on track to graduate and identifying a postsecondary plan. This program also works with youth and their families to complete college, trade school, job and financial aid applications, and works to place youth in a paid internship related to their career interest.

    Program Name: Sustainability Leadership Academy 

    Explore topics in sustainability and social justice during an unforgettable week-long experiential retreat at Eden Hall Campus–the world's first academic community built to be sustainable from below the ground up.     Program Name: DRONE DREAM *Develop * Reinvent * Envision *Advance * Mentor STEAM

    DRONE D.R.E.A.M. STEAM “Develop, Reinvent, Envision, Advance, Mentor” STEAM “Online classes begin October 12, 2020, until March 11, 2021. This free online program will run twice a week for 1 ½ hours per session and will teach you how to become a FAA Certified Commercial Drone Pilot. Did you know that less than 10% of African Americans in Pennsylvania are FAA Certified to operate a drone for commercial purposes? With jobs and wages increasing daily in this industry now is the time to earn your FAA drone license and take advantage of these opportunities!     PAC is oint effort of the Pittsburgh Public Schools, Community College of Allegheny County, and the University of Pittsburgh to help students from our local community achieve college enrollment and degree attainment.The first phase of the program are the college and career readiness PAC sessions offered to 9th-12th grade students from Westinghouse Academy and University Prep Milliones.     Sarah Heinz House offers more than 100 quality, afterschool and summer programs for kids, grades 1 through 12. We are open afterschool, in the evenings and on Saturdays. A membership fee of just $25 a year gives a child access to a variety of educational, health and fitness programs. Additional programs like robotics, dance, and media production are available for a low fee. We also offer tot and preschool classes.

    Steeltown Entertainment Project

    Program Name: Steeltown Film Academy

    Steeltown Film Academy (SFA) draws on its partnership with teaching artists and professional mentors to teach a curriculum of the basics of digital media arts, what we like to call SCALE: storytelling, camera, audio, lighting, and editing. The curriculum is more than 100 hours of hands-on and collaborative learning and uses the latest digital media technology.  Each class produces their own short film by the end of the session. Join the virtual open house on Sept. 23 at 7:00pm.

    We are excited to offer some of the fun and challenging activities that students experience at our after-school programs in a weekly box that we will deliver to your door.
