Post-Gazette Athlete of the Week: Samaree Perkins
SAMAREE PERKINS
Obama
The past week: Perkins had a big game, scoring 21 points and pulling down 16 rebounds as Obama defeated Allderdice, 58-40, in the City League championship game Sunday at Petersen Events Center. She scored her 1,000th career point in a semifinal victory Feb. 17.
Check this out: Perkins is a 5-foot-9 senior forward and leading scorer for Obama, averaging 16 points a game. She also is a standout volleyball player at Obama and hasn’t decided yet what sport to play in college. Small colleges are recruiting her for both sports. Perkins’ older sister, Javonna, plays volleyball at Carlow University and her cousin, Darryl Perkins of Westinghouse High School, recently signed to play football at California University of Pa.
