UPMC and Pittsburgh Public Schools Hold Vaccination Blitz
PITTSBURGH October 9, 2021 – Getting vaccinated against COVID-19 is a key step to keeping our schools open and our community safe and healthy. Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) and UPMC are partnering to hold a vaccination blitz across the District. The UPMC team will be deployed to all PPS high schools October 14-15, 2021, to administer the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine to students and staff seeking vaccination.
“This ongoing partnership with UPMC is a key strategy for the District to mitigate the spread of COVID-19,” said Dr. Wayne Walters, Interim Superintendent. “The health and wellness of our teachers, staff, students, and community are crucial for our schools to remain open and focus on high quality teaching and learning.”
Saturday’s vaccination clinic at Cupples Stadium (Gate D) is open to the public. School-based vaccination clinics for students and staff only will take place on Thursday, October 14, 2021, at Pittsburgh Allderdice (7:30 – 8:30 AM), Pittsburgh Milliones (7:30 – 8:30 AM), Pittsburgh Westinghouse (9:00 AM - 10:30 AM), Pittsburgh CAPA (9:30 - 10:30 AM), Pittsburgh Student Achievement Center (11 AM – 12 PM), Pittsburgh Obama (1 - 2:30 PM), and Pittsburgh Sci-Tech (3-4 PM).
On Friday, October 15, 2021, school-based vaccination clinics will continue at Pittsburgh Carrick (7:30 - 8:30 AM), Pittsburgh Brashear (9:30 - 11 AM), Pittsburgh Perry (11:30 AM – 1 PM), and Pittsburgh Oliver (1:30 – 3 PM).
Vaccinations are available for anyone 12 and older. In addition to providing the Pfizer vaccine, UPMC will also have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine on hand for anyone 18 and over who would like a one-dose option. Any student under the age of 18 must have a parent give consent by fully completing and signing the COVID-19 Vaccine Administration Form.
Booster shots are also available for District staff who have previously received the Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine. To receive a booster shot, the employee must be six months or more from the date of their second dose. PPS staff who are not vaccinated must participate in COVID-19 testing.
