Board Elects Leadership at Board Organization Meeting
December 3, 2018 – The Pittsburgh School Board has elected officers for the 2019 fiscal year at this evening’s Board Organization Meeting. Lynda Wrenn was elected President, Kevin Carter was elected First Vice-President, and Veronica Edwards was elected Second Vice-President. The Board also elected Superintendent Anthony Hamlet as Secretary of the Board, along with three Assistant Secretaries and a School Treasurer.

Mrs. Lynda Wrenn – Elected Board President
Lynda Wrenn recently served as First Vice-President of the Board and serves as Chair of the Board’s Communications and Marketing Committee and Co-Chair of the Business/Finance Committee. A mother of four PPS graduates, Mrs. Wrenn has a rich history in the Pittsburgh Public Schools. She has served as President of the Pittsburgh Linden K-5 Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and as a member of the District’s Summer Dreamers Academy Task Force, the Gifted Education Task Force, and Parent Advisory Group member. Mrs. Wrenn holds a Master’s in Teaching from Chatham University and did her student teaching at Pittsburgh Spring Hill K-5 on the Northside. Mrs. Wrenn is a resident of Point Breeze.
Mr. Kevin Carter – Elected First Vice-President
Kevin Carter was elected First Vice-President at tonight’s meeting. Mr. Carter currently serves as Co-Chair of the Board’s Business/Finance Committee. A graduate of Pittsburgh Schenley High School, Kevin Carter is the founder and CEO of the Adonai Center for Black Males, Inc, an organization working to ensure the social, educational, and economic advancement of black males. Mr. Carter has served as a four-time Ambassador, representing the United States, at the One Young World Summit as well as a Delegate for the United Nations Global Education Forum in 2013. Mr. Carter has received various awards and accolades for his efforts in community service, education, and youth development and currently serves on the boards of Pittsburgh Community Services, Northside Coalition for Fair Housing, and the Scoutreach Committee – Laurel Highlands Boy Scout Council.
Ms. Veronica Edwards –Elected Second Vice-President
Veronica Edwards is no stranger to Pittsburgh Public Schools. From PPS graduate to dedicated employee, she worked as a top aide for former superintendent Louise Brennan. After 37 years of service to the School District of Pittsburgh, she retired. Ms. Edwards serves on the Board’s Communication and Marketing and Personnel Committees. She currently resides in Windgap.
