The Ghimirey Family

The Ghimirey Family

Extending a helping hand.

Raghu Ghimirey has been on a journey to help people his entire life. During his 18 years in an impoverished refugee camp in southern Bhutan, he was a diligent student, studying under a tree and eventually becoming a teacher. When he and his family found his way to the United States, he knew he had to continue to educate Bhutanese children. Today, as an after-school coordinator for the Bhutanese Community Association of Pittsburgh, Mr. Ghimirey welcomes immigrant Bhutanese children at the library in Pittsburgh Concord. He helps them with homework assignments and acclimating to life in America. “We have a strong community here,” says Mr. Ghimirey. “We are so fortunate to also be a part of the PPS community.”
