Board Announces Members of Public Stakeholder Advisory Committee

PITTSBURGH PA June 25, 2021 – Members of the Board-established Public Stakeholder Advisory Committee were announced this afternoon. The 21-member ad-hoc committee will provide recommendations on initiatives aligned to Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief Funds III (ESSER) guidelines. Members will give feedback to the District on its plan to be submitted to the Board for approval in September.  The Committee's work will coincide with an extensive community engagement process currently underway in the District that began earlier this month with teachers and school-based staff and will expand to external stakeholders in partnership with community partners next month.

“There is no denying the game-changing opportunity that $100 million in federal aid means for the future of Pittsburgh Public Schools and the students and families we serve,” said Board First Vice President and Business and Finance Committee Chair Kevin Carter. “We want the entire Pittsburgh community – parents, teachers, staff, community members, and taxpayers -to add its voice to the development of a plan to reverse learning loss and improve student outcomes for years to come.”

“We know that the transformational change needed to reverse learning loss for students dramatically must be a priority for the entire community,” said Superintendent Anthony Hamlet, Ed.D. “Extensive community engagement has been a hallmark of my administration, and I am grateful to our Board for taking the additional steps to expand opportunities for stakeholder input in this most important work.”

Per the Board’s resolution, the Public Stakeholder Advisory Committee includes representation from various stakeholder groups, including parents from each Board District, Pittsburgh Federation of Teachers, Pittsburgh Administrators Association, internal stakeholder groups and the Board. It is anticipated that an update on the process will be presented to the Board this August for submission to the Pennsylvania Department of Education in September for approval.  Please see below a complete listing of committee members on the following page.
