The Childs-Peterson Family:

Connecting school and community partners.

After the pandemic, it was difficult to re-build a strong school-to-home community. Pittsburgh Woolslair parent Erin Childs took that as a challenge. With the support of teachers and administrators, she re-started the Woolslair PTO and began a host of activities, including family social nights that feature crafts, movies, bingo and more. They organized the Woolslair 125th community celebration and facilitated a free book giveaway at STEAM night. The PTO has reached out to the local community with great success, identifying partners to donate necessities for kids in need and initiating a fundraising app that promotes local businesses while enhancing educational and extracurricular activities for students. According to Ms. Childs, “We meet people where they’re at, inviting them to participate in any way they can, so as many parents can participate as possible.”
