Pittsburgh Public Schools Preliminary 2021 Budget Available Online

PITTSBURGH, November 17, 2020 - The Preliminary 2021 General Fund Budget for the Pittsburgh Public Schools is available for review on the District’s website. The preliminary budget follows a series of budget workshops held with the Board throughout the year, including a 2-day workshop held on November 4th and 5th. The 2021 Preliminary General Fund Budget of $668.6 million represents an increase of $3.7 million (0.5%) from the adopted 2020 General Fund Budget. The budget includes an operating deficit of $32.04 million. The 2021 Preliminary Budget does not have a tax increase.

“While this budget does not include a tax increase, we recognize the need to take steps to increase our revenue to the extent possible, while also reducing expenditures,” said Superintendent Anthony Hamlet. “We will continue to work with the Board to review our options before next month’s adoption, and we will continue this work after the budget is passed to address our structural deficit.”

The Board is expected to adopt the 2021 General Fund Budget at its December 16 Legislative Meeting. The 2021 Budget Public Hearing is scheduled for noon December 7, and will take place virtually. For information on public hearing procedures,  visit www.pghschools.org/publichearing.
