Pittsburgh Public Schools Board Appoints New Principal at Pittsburgh Milliones After Community Weighs In
PITTSBURGH, PA July 17, 2020 –– The Board of Directors approved the principal appointments of Eric Graf at Pittsburgh Milliones (University Prep) and Dr. Robert Frioni at Pittsburgh Perry, effective July 16, 2020.
Mr. Graf has been a public-school educator since 1994 working most recently as the assistant principal of Woodland Hills High School and principal of the Woodland Hills Online Academy. Last year, Mr. Graf earned his Superintendent’s Letter of Eligibility from California University of Pennsylvania. He holds a master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Pittsburgh, and a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and English Literature, from John Carroll University.
The Superintendent’s Office hosted a Meet and Greet earlier this week where teachers, staff, community members, and parents sat down with Mr. Graf to learn about his plans as the school’s new principal. The public provided feedback to the District after meeting Mr. Graf. One attendee said, “His plan emphasized a change in culture and climate which will in turn improve our attendance rate. This is the first change UPrep needs.”
Mr. Graf spent three years working in the Hill District as assistant principal of the Hill House Passport Academy. Many people at the Meet Greet found that to be an attractive quality. “Having some familiarity with the Hill District and the City is a plus. I liked that he is hands on and wants to be visible in the school and the community--going on home visits, if needed,” said another attendee.
“Summer is a time of transition, and we are excited as three long time educators shift into leadership roles,” said Dr. Anthony Hamlet, Superintendent. “With this global pandemic, it is imperative that we have dedicated professionals, such as Mr. Graf, Dr. Frioni, and Mr. Berkowitz, heading schools in the wake of online learning.”
Dr. Robert Frioni returns to the Pittsburgh Public Schools as principal of Pittsburgh Perry. Before leaving PPS in 2010, Dr. Frioni taught English Language Arts in various schools, worked as an ELA curriculum coach, and served as vice principal at Pittsburgh Brashear. Since 2015, Dr. Frioni was the Assistant Director and Principal at the Steel Center Area Vocational Technical School in Jefferson Hills.
Dr. Frioni earned a Doctor of Education and Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of Pittsburgh. He also holds a Bachelor of Arts from Washington & Jefferson.
