Pittsburgh Brashear Celebrates Dr. Seuss’ Birthday with Pittsburgh Beechwood for “Books with Bulls”
Pittsburgh Brashear football players and Teaching Magnet students made a special visit to Pittsburgh Beechwood to read books in honor of Dr. Seuss’ birthday. Eight football players who are enrolled in the magnet program, took part in “Books with Bulls.” For this event, players read to students in grades K-2. These future educators read Dr. Seuss books, signed the books, and donated them to the classroom libraries. The Pittsburgh Brashear students not only met new students but they also recieved some hands-on experience in English and Language Arts instruction and classroom management.
Under the direction of Hannah McCarthy, the Teaching Magnet program at Pittsburgh Brashear immerses students into the wonderful career of teaching. Pittsburgh Brashear head football coach Don Schmidt contacted Ms. McCarthy to pitch the “Books with Bulls” idea. Coach Don’s wife, Tammy, is a Literacy Academy Coach at Pittsburgh Beechwood and helped coordinate "Books with Bulls".
