Pittsburgh Westinghouse’s Keyshawn Morsillo First City League Quarterback to Make Top Five Finalist for Willie Thrower Award

Pittsburgh Westinghouse Bulldog Keyshawn Morsillo became the first City League quarterback to be named among the top five vote-getters for the Willie Thrower Award.  Other finalists included Cruce Brookins of Steel Valley, Cadin Olsen of Armstrong, Josh Jenkins of Sto-Rox, and Payton Wehner of Central Catholic.  Armstrong’s Cadin Olsen won the Willie Thrower Award for the second year.

 

In addition to being named a runner-up, Keyshawn providedSpeakers remarks at the luncheon held in New Kensington on Saturday, March 25, 2023, along with Westinghouse Assistant Coach James Cowart and PPS Director of Athletics Karen Arnold. 

 

Now in its third year, the Willie Thrower Award Foundation recognizes the top quarterback in Southwestern Pennsylvania based on votes by a panel that includes coaches from the WPIAL and City League, along with media members who cover high school football regularly.  The award is named after Willie Thrower, the first Black quarterback in NFL history in 1953 and a native of New Kensington.
