About Our School

Pittsburgh Woolslair Pre K-5 is a partial STEAM Magnet program on the edge of Bloomfield and Lawrenceville and housed in a Nationally Historic Landmark Building.  Both our neighborhood and magnet students receive the same STEAM programming through their core instruction and a dedicated STEAM Class. At its core, STEAM education combines several disciplines into project based learning to help students gain a better understanding of how science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics relate in the real world. Additionally, this program's unique approach promotes creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and communication to help all types of learners succeed.

At Pittsburgh Woolslair, our students participate in our 3Rs School-Wide Positive Behavior Plan. Each student is expected to follow the 3Rs throughout the school day - Ready and Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. Students earn Paw Tickets for showing the 3Rs, that they can use to shop at our school store. Woolslair offers an Energy Committee (grades 3-5), Student Envoys (grades 3-5), and a Junior Chapter of The National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE Jr.) sponsored by The Links Inc. (grades 3-5).  We have partnerships with Mercy Behavioral Health, Carnegie Science Center, The Frick Environmental Center, Carnegie Library, and the Neighborhood Learning Alliance.

The Childs-Peterson Family:
After the pandemic, it was difficult to re-build a strong school-to-home community. Pittsburgh Woolslair parent Erin Childs took that as a challenge. With the support of teachers and administrators, she re-started the Woolslair PTO and began a host of activities, including family social nights that feature crafts, movies, bingo and more.
