• Summer Programming

    Students outdoors in line to throw hula hoops Summer is the perfect time for kids to learn, build, read, explore, play and invent. Regardless of your student’s age, make sure your child has something engaging to do this summer.

    Many summer learning opportunities are available to students in the Pittsburgh Public Schools and at local organization across the city of Pittsburgh. A list of PPS programs is below. For additional summer learning options, please visit The APOST Program Finder. You can search programs by zip code or by keyword, allowing you to find the perfect program by name or the program to your home. Thanks to the Carnegie Libraries of Pittsburgh, all students PreK-12 will have access to books on the PPS summer reading list. The PPS summer reading list will be available in early May.

    Pittsburgh Public Schools Summer Learning Programs

    Little Dreamers Academy (Students entering Kindergarten in August 2019) - Enrollment Closed
    Little Dreamers is not your usual summer program. It is a “summer learning camp” that provides academic and social-emotional support around the transition into kindergarten with the fun of a summer camp. All campers will work on the reading, writing, math, and social-emotional skills that will help them to succeed as they enter kindergarten. Campers have fun and exciting academic classes in the morning and participate in enrichment and social interaction activities in the afternoon. All of our enrichment activities will have a STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the creative Arts, Mathematics) focus.

    Dates: Monday, June 24th through Tuesday, July 23rd. Camp will not be in session on Thursday, July 4th or Friday, July 5th

    Summer Dreamers Academy (Students in grades K-8) - Enrollment Closed May 3
    Summer Dreamers Academy is a no-cost, award winning summer learning camp that offers high-quality academic lessons in English-Language Arts and Mathematics and exciting and engaging enrichment activities to PPS students who have completed grades K-8.

    Throughout summer, we work to ensure that participating campers will:

    • Gain skills in reading and math.
    • Develop a passion for and excitement about learning.
    • Build confidence by discovering new strengths, and by developing a more positive sense of self through an environment filled with a positive culture of fun and learning.
    • Develop perseverance by attempting new things and by striving to improve.

    Center for Advanced Studies (CAS) Dreamers Academy (Rising 9th grades) 
    The CAS Summer Dreamers’ program is designed for students on the verge of being eligible for CAS courses their freshman year of high school. The four-week program will help prepare your student to enroll in both the CAS English I and CAS Civics class for the 2019-2020 school year upon successful completion of the summer program. CAS classes are honors level courses. Students must be enrolled in a PPS school their 8th grade year to be eligible. The program is for students who are in the 8th grade and have a GPA of at least a 2.75 or higher and whom scored a high basic on the 7th grade ELA PSSA scale score of at least 950.

    Brazilian Portugese Language and Culture Summer Program for High School Students
    Eligible students are rising 9th through 12 grade students. Download the brochure to learn more information.

    Location: University of Pittsburgh Oakland Campus
    Application Deadline: Friday, May 10, 2019

     

    Strings Camp 2019
    This camp is available for students who have completed grades 4-7 AND currently play a string instrument.  Students will participate in daily ensemble rehearsal, small group, a music elective, and will get to see performances by local musicians.  The week will culminate in a public performance. FREE to PPS Students!

    Dates: June 17 to June 21, 2019

    Credit Recovery (Class of 2019, 2020 and 2021)
    Credit Recovery is summer program for students in the Class of 2019, 2020 and 2021 who received a final failing mark in a course required to graduate and to receive a diploma. Eligible students must be registered by their high school counselor no later than June 14, 2019. 

    Summer Credit Recovery will be held daily from 7:30 AM to 2:30 PM Monday, July 1 – Monday, July 29th at Pittsburgh Sci-Tech 6-12 located at 107 Thackeray Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213 in Oakland. There will be no school Thursday, July 4th.

     

    Special 12 Credit Recovery (Class of 2019 Students Only)
    Special 12 Credit Recovery is a summer program for students in the class of 2019 who are in need of more than 2 credits (4 semester courses) to receive their diploma.  Students will enroll in Credit Recovery that begins July 1st to make up the additional credits needed to graduate.  Breakfast and lunch will be available but students are responsible for their own transportation to Summer School. Students must be registered by their high school counselor no later than May 17, 2019.

    The program will be held daily from 7:30 AM to 2:35 PM from Monday, July 1 – Monday, July 29th at Pittsburgh Sci-Tech 6-12 located at 107 Thackeray Street Pittsburgh, PA 15213 in Oakland. There will be no school Thursday, July 4th.
