Naviance Software Helps Students Prepare for Life After High School

PPS Students throwing graduation caps How does a student find the right career? Is college in the future? What college? And where do you start? It’s easy with Naviance, a comprehensive college and career readiness software solution that is used by approximately 40% of school districts across the country. It helps students find their strengths and interests, and connects them to post-secondary goals.

All PPS students in grades 6–12 have access to Naviance, both in school and at home. With the help of school counselors, students learn how to access online resources, match their interests to careers, explore colleges and technical schools, search for scholarships, even archive important documents such as test scores, letters of recommendation, and more.

When the process is introduced to students before they begin high school, they have time to explore and refine their career and college choices. With Naviance, students are well-prepared to take the next step in their life’s journey.

    Why Naviance?

Naviance is an easy-to-use tool that can improve student outcomes and connect learning to life. It provides many benefits, including:

    • Creation of a Personalized Plan: Every student is unique, and every student has different options for college and career. Naviance helps students devise a plan that suits their individual needs.
    • Career Exploration: When students start exploring career possibilities early, they become more interested in succeeding in school. They also become more aware of a world of job opportunities waiting for them.
    • Academic Planning: Through Naviance, students, families and counselors can work together to choose appropriate academic coursework that aligns with career goals.
    • Self-Discovery: Students become more confident in their abilities as they recognize their strengths and match their interests with potential careers. If their interests change, Naviance is there to redirect their efforts and help them find a new path to success.

    How Naviance Works

Planning for the future can seem overwhelming. In fact, most students don’t know how to even begin to find a career that might be right for them. Naviance takes the guesswork—and the stress—out of the process.

It starts with a simple survey. Working with a school counselor, students click through a list of questions that identify their interests and their strengths. The Naviance software matches these qualities with potential occupations. Students can then explore various careers, including the amount of education or training that is required, the salary potential, work conditions, and projected demand for this occupation.

If college or technical career is in their future, Naviance can direct students to schools that offer suitable programs, and help manage all aspects of the application process.

The software makes it easy for students to communicate with counselors, and to keep track of important dates, such as when to take SAT exams, request letters of recommendation, or visit campuses during their open house events.

Parents appreciate Naviance because it lets them work with their children to plan for the future. Counselors say Naviance helps them be more effective by giving them a deeper understanding of their students’ long-term objectives.
