Counselors and Social Workers
School counselors are trained, certified educators who improve student success for all students. School counselors help all students apply academic achievement strategies, manage emotions and apply interpersonal skills, and plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, work force). They lead, advocate, and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students by connecting their school counseling program to the school’s academic mission and school improvement plan.
School social workers are trained, certified mental health professionals with a degree in social work who provide services related to a person's social, emotional and life adjustment to school and/or society. School social workers are the link between the home, school and community in providing direct as well as indirect services to students, families and school personnel to promote and support students' academic and social success.
District Student Support Services staff collaborate with families, community partners, and school-based mental/behavioral health providers to engage in student assistance programming that is responsive to school-based needs.
