Pittsburgh Public Schools and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh Summer Reading

Title

June 1, 2026--August 9, 2026

In partnership with the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, we invite YOU to take part in this year’s preK–12 Citywide Summer Reading program—Grow. This summer, let reading help you grow your imagination, your knowledge, and your dreams as you explore stories that expand your world and inspire new possibilities.

Read for joy all summer long while participating in engaging activities that promote health, wellness, and creative exploration. Whether you’re discovering new places through books, imagining who you might become, or taking on fun reading challenges, you’ll be growing your creativity, curiosity, and critical thinking along the way.

Summer reading helps students grow as readers by preventing the “summer slide,” strengthening vocabulary and comprehension, and keeping academic skills strong. It also helps grow empathy, cultural awareness, and new ideas—skills that matter far beyond the classroom.

Throughout the summer, Pittsburgh Public Schools and the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh will offer exciting events, challenges, and opportunities to earn incentives and win prizes—giving students even more ways to grow through reading.

Be sure to check out the PPS Prize List below, which will be updated throughout the summer as students reach reading milestones and unlock new rewards. Let’s grow together through a summer full of reading!

Take pictures throughout the summer and tag #PPSREADS on social media! Pictures can also be sent to afillmore1@pghschools.org
