Welcome to Pittsburgh Public Schools Athletics Department
Athletic participation provides healthy, supervised after-school activities for students in a safe and positive environment. Students who participate in athletics have been shown to have higher grade point averages, better attendance, lower dropout rates, fewer disciplinary problems and higher graduation rates. Participation in athletics teaches teamwork, goal setting, discipline, sportsmanship, leadership, and other valuable life-skills.

A new collaborative initiative between Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) and the Pittsburgh Steelers aims to increase the number of area student-athletes eligible to play at the collegiate level. In 2022, Pennsylvania ranked sixth in the nation for nonqualifiers (student-athletes who do not meet the NCAA’s requirements to play at the collegiate level).

Unlocking Future Success: Pittsburgh Public Schools and NCAA to Help StudentAthletes Stay on Track for Future in Collegiate Sports
: Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) and the NCAA Eligibility Center will kick off the next phase of its collaborative effort to ensure student-athletes stay on track for a future in collegiate sports. NCAA Eligibility Center representatives will be on hand at Pittsburgh South Hills 6-8 to help the school’s 8th-grade student-athletes create NCAA Eligibility Center accounts. The vital accounts can help increase students’ awareness of NCAA requirements and significantly enhance their future opportunities in collegiate sports.

About the teams: All-section teams were selected by section coaches. WPIAL and City League coaches were asked to pick a six-player team in order of preference. Six points were awarded for a first-place vote, five for a second, etc. The top five players were selected. Coaches were not allowed to vote for their own players.
