PPS - WSD: An Educational Partnership
The Wilkinsburg School District has announced, that due to low enrollment, it cannot provide the academic, extra-curricular and technology opportunities required to provide its students, in grades seven through twelve, the quality education they need. On August 12, 2015, the Pittsburgh Public Schools and Wilkinsburg School District announced the formation of an internal working group to explore the feasibility of a cross-district partnership. The internal team was charged with developing terms for a potential agreement for approval by each district's Board.Recommendations for the agreement considered financial and academic factors, student transition needs and any legal, financial and technical support required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
On October 28, 2015, following months of discussion and opportunities for community feedback, the Board of Directors for the Pittsburgh Public Schools approved a Letter of Intent regarding the assignment of secondary students in the Wilkinsburg School District to the Pittsburgh Public Schools for the start of the 2016-2017 school year. Approved by the Wilkinsburg School Board on October 27, 2015, the Letter of Intent creates an educational partnership to meet the needs of Wilkinsburg's students, in grades 7-12, and assigns students to Pittsburgh Westinghouse 6-12.
