Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) is full of talented students who graduate prepared for college, career, and life. Princeton, Yale, Stanford, and Brown are among the impressive post-secondary institutions accepting Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS) students this fall. On Monday, June 13, 2022, PPS celebrated 72 students who have risen to the top of their class to be named valedictorian or salutatorian at the first Breakfast of Champions. Hosted in partnership with the University of Pittsburgh’s Office of Admissions and the University Educational Outreach Center - Office of the Provost and Sr. Vice Chancellor, the breakfast provided an opportunity to celebrate these outstanding students just ahead of the weekend commencement ceremonies. Through the Pittsburgh Public Scholars program, all valedictorians and salutatorians in Pittsburgh Public Schools are guaranteed admission to one of the five Pitt campuses. Nineteen PPS students will attend the university this fall.
As part of Monday’s event, students had the opportunity to receive remarks of encouragement from School Board President Sala Udin, Mayor Ed Gainey, University of Pittsburgh Director Financial Wellness Center Joel Philistine, and Interim Superintendent Wayne N. Walters. The Advanced Leadership Institute’s President and CEO, Evan Frazier, shared a special message for students with impressive plans for life after high school.
