Minority/Women Business Department
The School District of Pittsburgh recognizes that diversity plays a vital role in delivering the services, value and innovation necessary to serve our employees, communities and our most precious commodities, our students. In alignment with the district’s strategic focus on the principles of equity, excellence, and efficiency the Minority/Women Business Department administers a supplier diversity initiative. This initiative is designed to remedy potential discrimination impacting minority and women owned firms attempting to compete for and obtain contracts awarded by the district. We will continuously strive to increase the overall participation of Minority, Women, and Disadvantaged-owned Businesses who have historically been undervalued, underestimated, and marginalized. This will demonstrate another means of positively impacting the communities where our students reside and thrive.
We propose to reach our program goals by:
- Identifying, actively seeking, and expanding our network of MBE, WBE, DBE and SBA 8(a) certified firms
- Coaching and encouraging our employees to be inclusive in their daily business decisions when selecting the best firm to meet our business needs
- Monitoring and measuring the effectiveness of our supplier/business diversity effortsÂ
