Facilities

The Facilities Division of the Pittsburgh Public School District can be broken down into four essential sections: Construction, Design, Support, and Maintenance. The entire department is responsible for the planning, development, construction, and maintenance of all properties of the School District.

Keeping the buildings properly maintained, operational, and regularly renovated to accommodate the ever evolving Pittsburgh Public School District is the unique and complex challenge Facilities face on a daily basis. In addition to: State, County, and City building requirements, yearly alterations to the Building Code, Historic Review limitations, uncooperative weather conditions, financial restraints, school needs/requests, and unforeseen building emergencies; the average building was constructed in 1931, with multiple schools built in 1800s. Thus, making a seemingly minute task an interesting multi-layered challenge. With a creative, pro-active staff these challenges are met with remarkable success that is not measured in dollars and cents, but in our ability to provide every student and staff member with a safe, fully functional building that exceeds the expectations of yesterday.
