CAPA Theatre Arts

Theatre Department

The Theater Department teems with creativity and excitement. It is comprised of two components: Drama (acting, movement for the actor, and voice and speech) and Musical Theatre (acting, dance, and private voice).

Theater students receive courses such as Introduction to Theater, Acting, Rehearsal and Performance, Voice and Speech, Theater History and Styles, Movement for the Actor, Private Voice, Dance, and Music Theory. These courses are taught by working theater professionals trained at some of the most prestigious colleges in the world. These veteran equity actors have extensive credits including Broadway, Off Broadway, Papermill Playhouse, City Theatre, The Public Theatre, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, and many more.

Pittsburgh is fortunate to be the home of two LORT theatres, as well two world-renowned colleges for theatre, Carnegie Mellon University and Point Park University, all of which provide ongoing opportunities for collaboration with our students.

All the world IS a stage, and field trips abound! The department takes in the theatre world by seeing live performances at The Pittsburgh Public Theatre, City Theatre, PICT, Pittsburgh Musical Theatre, and more. We take an annual 3-day trip to New York City where we see several Broadway and Off-Broadway shows, shop, eat, visit museums, see the sights, and sometimes meet with the actors.
