CAPA Production Technology

Production Technology Department

Production Technology provides an immersion education in Stagecraft and Recording Technology at CAPA’s state-of-the-art performance facilities.

In Stagecraft classes, students learn construction techniques as they build scenery for musicals, plays, operas, and other performances. An emphasis on safety from the earliest design phases keeps students on track through completion of complex projects. Areas of instruction include basic electricity, carpentry, scenic painting, and rigging fundamentals.

Recording Technology classes explore all aspects of live sound reinforcement and recording, from microphone selection and placement to mixing and post-production.

Production Technology majors work year-round on many events and productions. In the course of their studies, all students will have the opportunity to: hang and focus lights; set up projection systems; install choir risers; make audio and video recordings; operate follow spotlights, mixers, fly systems, lighting consoles, and intercoms; and stage-manage events.
