School-Based Professionals

ApplyNow

Are you motivated to make a difference for students? Consider a career at PPS.

At Pittsburgh Public Schools, we know that our students need support in and out of the classroom to reach their full potential. School-based professionals are critical in our District to ensure that students are not just learning academically, but developing strong character and gaining skills that prepare them for college and career.

What We Look For

We’re looking for employees with diverse experiences and skill sets, as well as the motivation to do whatever it takes so that all students graduate ready for college or for participation in a workforce certification program.

What You Can Expect

School-based professionals provide essential supports to students in one or more schools. You’ll have the benefit of making a difference in the lives of students throughout the city who come from diverse backgrounds and bring with them unique talents, interests, and skills.

How To Apply

To become a counselor, social worker, nurse, psychologist, speech therapist, occupational therapist, or other school-based professional, you must first complete a “Standard: Certified” application in the District’s online application system. This application will be screened in order to determine if you will be placed on the eligible list. For more information, please take a look at the Eligible List FAQ.

A complete school-based professional application requires:
  • An updated resume, reflective of your education and employment experience, including community involvement and leadership roles
  • Writing samples (responses to three brief essay prompts)
  • References (submission and return of three electronic references)
  • Selection of your certification type and content area

Step 1: Create an account and complete the online application. In addition to the above requirements, you will also have the opportunity to upload your Pennsylvania PRAXIS Exam scores, diplomas, transcripts, state-issued certificates, and additional attachments.

Step 2: Pittsburgh Public Schools will contact you if you are selected to move forward in the hiring process.

Interested applicants that do not have access to a computer can apply online using the Human Resources Kiosk at the District's Central Administration Building at 341 S. Bellefield Avenue - Pgh, PA 15213.
