All Summer Dreamers campers participate in a 90 minute literacy block and a 90 minute math block daily, to support academic growth and combat summer learning loss in a fun and exciting atmosphere. Campers who have completed K-3rd grade are in self contained classrooms (one teacher teaches both reading and math) while campers who have completed 4th - 8th grade have a two morning academic teachers - one for literacy and one for math.
The academic curriculum at Summer Dreamers is developed by Pittsburgh Public Schools teachers who are familiar with the Summer Dreamers model, to ensure that lessons are aligned with the PPS core curriculum, that they address identified areas of need based on PPS assessment data, and that they are fun and engaging for youth!
Classroom libraries, educational games, an on-site book fair, and weekly visits from the Carnegie Library BLAST and Teen Read programs supplement the academic program for campers.
