All Summer Dreamers campers participate in a 90 minute literacy block and a 90 minute math block daily, to support academic growth and combat summer learning loss in a fun and exciting atmosphere. The literacy block is based in a National Geographic content based literacy curriculum, and the McGraw Hill Number Worlds curriculum serves as the foundation for the mathematics component of Summer Dreamers. Both programs are modified by PPS curriculum writers who are familiar with the Summer Dreamers model, to ensure that lessons are aligned with the PPS core curriculum, that they address identified areas of need based on PPS assessment data, and that they are fun and engaging for youth!
Classroom libraries, educational games, an on-site book fair, and weekly visits from the Carnegie Library BLAST and Teen Read programs supplement the academic program for campers.
