    It’s hard for Bill Chersky not to be involved in his son’s education. As a teacher at Pittsburgh Obama, Bill saw his son throughout the school day. “Other teachers would text my dad about me,” admits Dylan. But even though Dylan has moved on to Pittsburgh CAPA, the Cherskys are still engaged in Dylan’s learning, especially at home

    PITTSBURGH — Thursday is Feb. 29, or Leap Day. As we know, it only comes around once every four years — but what's the reason behind it? At Pittsburgh Science and Technology Academy, eighth graders Ayanna Hall and Katie Hamner are working out the math explaining the science behind the mystical date of Feb. 29.

    A Celebration of Brilliance: Dr. Mary Lee Brady-Atkins inducted into Westinghouse High School Wall of Fame

    Thursday, February 8, 2024, was a humongous day in the City of Pittsburgh, at Westinghouse High School, and in the life of Dr. Mary Lee Brady-Atkins. The oldest living descendant of Sally Hemings, who was born on May 11, 1928, and at age 95, was recognized for her “extraordinary works” and “unforgettable life” during a ceremony at her alma mater, Westinghouse.

ABOUT OUR SCHOOL


  • Pittsburgh Roosevelt PreK-5 is a neighborhood school located in Pittsburgh's Carrick community. At Pittsburgh Roosevelt, the focus is "Excellence for All." The instructional program is designed around the District's comprehensive curriculum, emphasizing the Pennsylvania learning standards in reading, math, science, social studies, art, music, and physical education. The Instructional Focus of the school is reading comprehension across all content areas. We are committed that all students will learn each day and in every classroom. The expectation at Pittsburgh Roosevelt is that all students can achieve. School policies, practices and curriculum are designed to sustain the academic rigor of the school and to ensure that all students are contributing members of the school community. Pittsburgh Roosevelt is a model of an exemplary school program that offers best practices and supports all students, regardless of ability, with the highest quality instruction and support in the least restrictive educational environment. At Pittsburgh Roosevelt PreK-5, students are encouraged to be a Roosevelt B.E.A.R.; students will always be safe, encourage others, demonstrate accountability for their own actions and words, and show respect.

     

    At Pittsburgh Roosevelt, we offer two after school programs for students in grades one-five. The Elect Student Works Program provides academic and recreational activities Monday through Thursday, 3 hours per day, following school dismissal. This program is provided FREE to all eligible children. At Pittsburgh Roosevelt, we offer an extended day YMCA Program on site. It begins immediately at dismissal and runs until 6PM daily, Monday-Friday. This is a state licensed after-school program. Additionally, we participate in the Think-A-Thon; Stash the Trash Days, and the SECTUM contest each year.
