Guidelines for Building Closure to Mitigate Spread of COVID-19
Based on guidance as shared in the Department of Health's (DOH) Plans and Processes for K-12 Schools During COVID-19 on August 11, 2021, Pittsburgh Public Schools will implement the following procedures for school closures for outbreak containment:
A maximum 14-day suspension of in-person learning may be recommended by DOH if the following criteria are met:
- 5% of total enrollment of students/staff confirmed cases in 14-day window
OR
- 3 simultaneous classroom and/or core group outbreaks
- Transmission between 2 or more students or students/staff/teachers without other identified epidemiological links in 3 or more classrooms and/or other core groups (i.e. teams, band)
Additional considerations for closures:
- Staffing shortages caused by quarantines and/or positive cases may result in closures, regardless of the percentage threshold for closure at a school.
- Sharing of staff between facilities.
- Sharing of facilities between schools.
