• 2020-2021 School Year Learning Model Options

Visualization of In-School and Online Model Options outlined in text

All Pittsburgh Public Schools students will begin the 2020-2021 school year online following a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors on July 31, 2020.

We want to ensure a safe and healthy reopening of school that meets all state and federal guidelines. To do this, we know that we cannot have every student in school everyday when and if school buildings open Monday, November 9, 2020.  We continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and will be ready to continue full-time E-Learning if conditions in our area continue to raise concern about student and staff safety.

To support our planning, we are asking families to let us know if they prefer a full-time online option (E-Learning) or prefer to have their child return to a brick and mortar school environment.

In the In-School Model, students will receive a mix of In-School Instruction and Online E-Learning. The number of days students can be in-school will depend on the number of families that choose the full-time Online E-Learning option. Read the Hybrid In-School Model FAQ here.

In the E-Learning Model, students will receive teacher-led instruction and independent student work. Students will remain assigned to their neighborhood school or magnet program for the 2020–2021 school year.

In a time of such uncertainty, we want families to have a choice on how their child receives instruction this school year. Families can choose a full-time Online E-Learning option or choose to return their child to school.

The District’s number one priority is the health and safety of students and staff. We continue to monitor the spread of COVID-19 and will be ready to offer full-time E-Learning to all students should conditions in our area raise concern about student and staff safety.

If your student is currently enrolled in Pittsburgh Public Schools (PPS), please navigate to one of the options below. If your student is new to PPS, please visit our Enrollment Page first to register your child into the district before enrolling in E-Learning.

Current PPS Families choosing not to enroll their child for Online E-Learning will automatically be enrolled for in-school option at their child’s current school of assignment.

Current PPS Families who want to choose Online E-Learning are asked to complete the online e-learning enrollment form below.  Families who have already enrolled students in full-time online E-Learning will stay enrolled in E-Learning following the first nine weeks of school.  Families may transition out of full-time E-Learning at the semester end.

Families will need to provide their child’s full name and their child’s student ID to complete enroll their child in a full-time online E-Learning model. A form must be completed for each child enrolling in the online Full-time E-Learning option.
