LIMITED OPEN ENROLLMENT OPPORTUNITIES AVAILABLE AT 12 DISTRICT SCHOOLS

Open Enrollment Now Underway for the 2020-21 School Year

PITTSBURGH – 6/25/2020 - Starting 6/25/2020, families of the Pittsburgh Public Schools may apply for transfers through Limited Open Enrollment for the 2020-21 school year.  Spaces are available at 12 (twelve) District schools serving students in grades K-8.  Applications may be obtained using the link below and will be accepted on a first-come, first served basis until all spots are filled.

Parents may apply primarily to the schools in the same geographic region (North/Central, East, South/East, South/West) where their child resides and must provide proof of residency at the time of application.

Students in special education programs are eligible for open enrollment; however, parents should notify their child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) team to ensure appropriate placement. The IEP process shall overrule Open Enrollment if the child’s special education needs are greater than the services provided in the school.

The chart below lists the 12 (twelve) District schools and the space available in each school. To learn more about each school please visit http://www.discoverpps.org

Below is additional information for parents to consider regarding Limited Open Enrollment.

    • No student may open enroll into a Magnet program. The Open Enrollment process will be independent of other transfers.
    • Open enrollment will be a commitment only for the specific school requested. When the student advances from one grade configuration to the next, he or she will return to the feeder pattern of residence.
    • Applications will be accepted on a first-come first served basis, within the limits of available space.

USE THIS FORM: Open Enrollment Application 2020-21 School Year

    • Submit the completed form to the Office of Student Support Services via email to openenrollment@pghschools.org. Please have your subject line read:  RE:  Open Enrollment Appl - (STUDENT NAME/ present school ) - FOR   (SCHOOL)
    • If a student is entering kindergarten or PPS for the first time, and is not currently enrolled, the parent(s) or legal guardian must register prior to submitting an application for Open Enrollment. Visit pghschools.org/enrollment for more information on how to enroll.
    • The District will not incur additional transportation costs; therefore, transportation will not be provided unless there is an existing route with available space.
    • Please note that there is no guarantee Open Enrollment will be afforded to parents in the future –parents cannot assume that siblings at a later date will be able to enroll in the same school as their older siblings.
