• All Pittsburgh Public School employees are required to obtain a staff identification (ID) badge. Staff ID badges grant employees access to their primary place of work and must be worn at all times. Badges are distributed at the Administration Building (341 S. Bellefield Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15213) in Room 136.  

    For Human Resources to issue an ID badge, including replacement badges, you must provide a government-issued photo ID as proof of identification. When you first receive your ID Badge, it will immediately serve as photo identification, but may not provide you with swipe access at your respective school location(s) as it typically takes 1 week to activate. If you are a new employee whose photo was taken during New Employee Orientation your ID Badge will be sent to the school secretary within 2 weeks of your hire date.    

    Substitute Employees 

    Day-to-Day substitutes are unable and not permitted to utilize their ID badges to swipe into schools. If a Day-to-Day substitute reaches the status of full-time substitute, then building access may be granted through the approval of the Principal. Once approval is received the school secretary will activate the ID Badge for swipe usage. Activation typically takes 1 week.


    Non-PPS employees such as school contractors can only be issued ID badges through the approval of the school principal. School contractors are unable and not permitted to utilize their ID badge to swipe into schools. All contractors must return their ID Badge to the school principal once the contract term has ended.



    The Pittsburgh Public Schools ID badge printing system is currently down. Due to complications from both the supply shortages and shipping delays caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the production of ID badges has been significantly delayed. We hope to have our system back up and operating by the end of February.

    Please submit your ID badge request to staffing@pghschools.org with the following information:

    • RECENT headshot of yourself. Your headshot must have a white background, clearly show your full face with no facial coverings (hates, masks, sunglasses, etc.) or filters, and be saved in either a .JPEG or a .PDF file format.
    • In the subject line of your email, include the following words: “ID BADGE”.
    • In the body of your email include the following:
      • Your full name
      • Your current job title
      • Your current work location (so we know where to send your ID)

    Your ID badge request will be recorded and we will send your your ID badge as soon as possible. Please refrain from sending any follow-up emails about the status of your badge until the beginning of March.
