    What is the Summer Dreamers Academy?

    Summer Dreamers is a summer learning camp providing the academic benfit of a summer school along with the fun of a summer camp. Campers have fun and exciting English-Language Arts and Mathematics classes in the morning and participate in up to two enrichment activities in the afternoon. When applying, campers can preference their activities and our application lottery works to match them to their preferred choices. Past offerings have included biking, kayaking, ceramics, architecture, community service, and much more!

     

    Who is eligible to apply? 

    Summer Dreamers is open to any current Pittsburgh Public Schools student enrolled in Kindergarten through 5th grade. 

    Because space in the program is limited, we are unfortunately unable to serve every child who applies. If we receive more applications than we have spaces for we make our acceptance decisions based on serving children that are most at risk for summer learning loss. This typically involves looking at a child's academic performance and eligibility for free or reduced-price lunch status.

     

    How do I sign my child up?

    **Please note that the Summer Dreamers application reopened on April 20 and will close on May 29**

    Registration for the Summer Dreamers Academy takes place entirely online. To apply, visit the Registration Gateway after April 20 and before May 29 to complete your child's application. Be sure to have your Home Access Center (HAC) username and passsword as you will need it to access the application. If you have forgotten or do not have this information, please call the Parent Hotline at 412-529-HELP(4357).

     

    I am having trouble with the online application. What do I do?

    If you have tried to use your HAC username and password and cannot apply, or cannot access the application for any other reason, please call the Summer Dreamers Academy at 412-529-2454 to leave a message. Please include you name, your childs name, a call back number, and the reason for your call so that a team member can call you back as soon as possible to support by phone.

     

    My child receives services through PSE. Can they attend Summer Dreamers?

    Absolutely! The program is open to all PPS students in grades K-5. If your child receives services through PSE, please talk to your child's IEP team about the program and about the services they are to receive during the summer. If this program will be provided for Extended School Year (ESY) purposes, please defer to your child's case manager for additional questions about Summer Dreamers.

     

    When is the Summer Dreamers Academy?

    Camp is anticipated to take place from 8:30am-4:00pm, Monday-Friday from June 29- August 5. Camp will not be in session on Friday, July 3.

     

    Where will my child attend camp? 

    This summer, the program will be taking place virtually through Microsoft Teams. While the program will not happen in person at a physical school, the application will still place you into a regional "site" that determines your child's virtual classroom.

    When completing the application, you will be able to confirm your child's camp "site" location. This location is determined by the campers home address on file with the District. If you have recently moved, please confirm your new address with your child's school as this may affect camp site placement.
