Aisha Sharif-Lucas
Class of 1999Mrs. Sharif-Lucas is in her 13th year with the Pittsburgh Public Schools and is currently the Instrumental Music Director at Pittsburgh Obama 9-12 where she is responsible for directing all high school instrumental music ensembles, the marching band, and the orchestra pit for the annual spring musicals (2007-2017).
She began playing the flute at eight and participated in numerous music ensembles at Pittsburgh Liberty and Frick Middle School, PMEA District 1 Band and Orchestra, The Pittsburgh Phoenix Youth Festival Orchestra, and numerous All-City instrumental ensembles in Pittsburgh Public Schools’ Centers for the Musically Talented. As a student at Schenley High School, she was a principal flute player in the orchestra pit for two musicals, Anything Goes and The Wiz. After graduating from Schenley in 1999, she attended West Chester University, where she earned a Bachelor of Music degree as a flute major, and then attended the University of Pittsburgh earning her Master’s in Education and Principal’s Certification.
She is an active member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated (a historically black international community service organization) and volunteers at Young Brothers Tae Kwon Do (Fox Chapel location) as a 3rd Degree Black Belt Assistant Instructor. During her career, Mrs. Sharif-Lucas has performed with the Edgewood Symphony Orchestra and The North Pittsburgh Symphonic Band under the direction of retired PPS teacher, Mr. Carl Iezzi. She continues to perform as a solo flutist in the City of Pittsburgh and surrounding areas at weddings and special occasions upon request.
