Early Childhood Program

The Pittsburgh Public Schools Early Childhood Education Department provides children, birth to five, with a comprehensive program designed to reinforce and respond to the unique strengths and needs of each individual child and family. The fee for the Early Childhood Program is $6,500.00 per academic year. Depending on your family income you may qualify for a Head Start or State funded scholarship. In most cases, these scholarships cover all of the costs.
To enroll a child who is between 3-5 yrs. old, please complete the online Early Childhood Application by clicking the link below. Children must be 3 yrs. old by September 30, 2019 to enroll in the Early Childhood Program. If you child turns 5 yrs. old on or before September 30, 2019 you will need to apply for Kindergarten. For more information about the Preschool Program, please call the Main Office at 412-529-4291.
If you would like to enroll your child in our Early Head Start Program for children under 3 yrs. old, please contact the Early Head Start Coordinator, Sherlyn Harrison at 412-529-8021.NEW Linden location added for 2019-2020! Spots are still available!
Our application can be completed from any device that has access to the Internet. If you don't have access to the Internet, you can apply in person at one of the following Early Childhood Centers (ECE) where a staff person can assist you with applying online. Pittsburgh Public Schools has a long-standing history of implementing successful and effective early childhood programs in the City of Pittsburgh that fosters the educational, nutritional, social-emotional, health/mental health, and physical development and well-being of all children, including those with special needs.
Early Childhood Lottery Information
Please click on the 2019-20 Enrollment Application link above to access the online application.
Lottery applications will be accepted from 9:00 a.m. on Monday, February 4, 2019 through 3:00 p.m. on Friday, March 29, 2019 for the 2019-20 School Year. Any applications received after March 29, 2019 will automatically be placed on the waiting list after the last name drawn from the lottery.

The lottery will be held on April 15, 2019. Families will be notified of their child’s acceptance into the Program by e-mail no later than May 3, 2019.
Note: Twins or other multiple births are treated as one when considered for the lottery. If one child is accepted, the other is accepted as well.
Children not accepted in the lottery will be placed on a waiting list and will be contacted by the Early Childhood Program as space becomes available.
