    The Pittsburgh Public Schools (District) actively promotes and encourages full and open competition in its procurement of goods and services to ensure equitable and inclusive purchasing procedures. Diverse businesses bring unique skills and fresh ideas, and they play a vital role in delivering the services, value and innovation necessary to serve our most precious commodities, our students. By respecting and including different viewpoints, we are better able to serve our students, employees and community.

    We are committed to promoting, increasing and improving the overall participation of Minority, Women, and Disadvantaged-owned Business Enterprises by procuring their supplies and services. We also encourage subcontracting opportunities for these businesses by requesting supplier diversity participation from prime contractors.

    We currently operate a 'race & gender conscious' as well as a 'race & gender neutral' program.  We currently only apply goals for inclusion on construction contracts that are awarded via the sealed bid process.  Procedures are followed to assure that an award of a contract is not made until a prime contractor has met the established diversity goal(s) by subcontracting with certified business enterpreneur(s), or has demonstrated a good faith effort to meet the established goal.

    We register and maintain a database of firms which may be accessed on the Eligible Business Enterprise (EBE) Directory page and can assist prime contractors in their search for certified Minority, Woman and/or Disadvantaged business firms for participation to meet established diversity contracting goals.  

    The District's Minority/Women Business Coordinator's role includes serving as an advocate for MWDBEs actively working on contracts within the District.
